Dubai's Desert Safari

Any adventure is a great photo opportunity and Dubai's desert safari does not disappoint. It was a wonderful adventure from the get go. We were picked up at our hotel in a Landcruiser and driven over to the desert. Well trained (and highly courageous) drivers are required to drive on the dunes. Unfortunately, our driver drove through town as if it were the dunes! Which did (kind of) prepare me for the crazy, topsy-turvy, sideways, backwards drive on the dunes. The drive on the dunes was simply exhilarating. Coming down a dune sideways, at breakneck speed is a unique experience, one that I recommend for all.

Not many pictures that I took during the ride came out great - as you can well imagine, I'm just glad that my camera and me came back in one piece.

After the thrill ride through the dunes, we were taken over to a camp site with more fun in store. We got to ride the camels, have henna applied, dressed in the local garb for another photo opp, smoked hukkas and ate local cuisine while watching cultural performances that included the famed belly dancing.
